Meet Our Mini Vinnies

Ffion, Arianna, Kacey and Ruby!

Our children are part of a special worldwide community, forming a part of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. This is a voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty in all its forms. Our Mini Vinnies group meet regularly to pray, discuss and support whoever they can to help make a difference in our community.

Mini Vinnies truly turn concern into action as they use the simple formula of ‘see, think, do’ to find people in need and do all they can to help them.

Our Mini Vinnies also contribute to helping every member of the school community feel supported in their spiritual and moral development.

The children meet to make decisions and discuss how they are going to work towards their action plan. They also have opportunities to lead prayer in Liturgies, plan and lead charity events, monitor prayer tables and class Gweddiwn, as well as provide support and guidance. The children also support Christian meditation and Daily Examen.

Catholic Pupil Profile

At St Margaret’s Catholic Primary School we encourage our children and each other to reflect on the question asked by Pope Benedict XVI, ‘What kind of person would you really like to be?’

Jesus is at the centre of our mission statement: ‘We are learning to live like Jesus’. This question therefore allows us to think about what kind of person God wants us to be, as well as what virtues or qualities we need to grow in order to become that person. This is where the Pupil Profile supports everyone’s journey within the school to become that person. It is made up of eight Virtue Pairs of what makes a good person, based on Jesus’ teaching. By striving to show these Virtues, we are fulfilling the answer to Pope Benedict XVI’s very important and meaningful question.

Grateful for their own gifts for the gift of other people, and for the blessings of each day; and generous with their gifts, becoming men and women for others.

Attentive to their experience and to their vocation and discerning about the choices they make and the effects of those choices.

Compassionate toward others, near and far, especially the less fortunate; and loving by their just actions and forgiving words.

Faith-filled in their beliefs and hopeful for the future.

Eloquent and truthful in what they say of themselves, the relations between people and the world.

Learned, finding God in all things; and wise in the ways they use their learning for the common good.

Curious about everything and active in their engagement with the world, changing what they can for the better.

Intentional in the way they live and use the resources of the earth, guided by conscience, and prophets in the example they set to others.

Each class has a Pupil Profile Tree where the children respond to the meaning of the virtue pairs and show how they live this quality in their day to day lives.

This is what the Catholic Pupil Profile means to the children in our school:

“Helps me to follow in Jesus’ footsteps”

“They help me to be kind”

“Helps me to love others like Jesus loves us”

“Helps me to play nicely with others”

“Makes me be good and be like Jesus”

“Helps me to speak to God”

“Helps me to think about what I am going to do/ decisions I am going to make”

“They help me to be the best I can be”

Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic social teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world. · Dignity · Solidarity · The common good · The option for the poor · Peace-

· Stewardship- · The dignity of work and participation

Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.

Religious Education

A new Religious Education Directory has been developed and published for all Catholic Schools in England and Wales, titled 'To Know You More Clearly.' This is an exciting opportunity for Catholic schools to deliver inspiring Religious Education. Therefore, we are transitioning from our Come and See Scheme of work for Religious Education in school to the programme of study set out in this directory.

Good religious education is paramount in meeting the mission of the Catholic Church. St Margaret's School are striving towards this by beginning the journey of teaching the new programme of study, ensuring that each child within our school develops in mind, body and spirit.
